February 20, 2010, 01:44 AM By Michelle Durand
The Oregon man arrested in September for telling a Phillipines Airlines employee he could blow up the plane by
pushing a button on his cell phone pleaded no contest to misdemeanor disturbing the peace in return for time served
and a year of court probation.
Mark Todd Field, 46, was given two days in jail but has credit for the same amount, essentially ending his term aside
from the probation stretch. He must also pay standard court fees and fines and was ordered to stay away from
Philippines Airlines at the airport unless specifically ticketed to travel on that carrier.
Police at San Francisco International Airport arrested Field Sept. 29 after employees reported he threatened to
detonate a bomb. According to prosecutors, at approximately 10 p.m. that night Field grew angry and began swearing
after an employee prohibited him from boarding a plane because of a disagreement over a ticket. At one point, Field
held up his cell phone and said all he had to do was push a button and their “f—king plane would blow off.”
Field was arrested on suspicion of make a false bomb threat. He initially pleaded not guilty but changed his plea after
prosecutors added the misdemeanor count disturbing the police.
Field has been out of custody on a $50,000 bail bond.
