Newspaper: Tapes of Clemmons show anger at police

SEATTLE, Wash. - The Seattle Times reports that the man accused of killing four police officers last fall earlier told his
wife in a series of jailhouse phone calls that he would never again be arrested, face a judge or be jailed.
Through a public records request, the newspaper obtained more than nine hours of talks Maurice Clemmons had with
his wife, Nicole Smith, and others from Oct. 1 to Nov. 17 while he was in the Pierce County Jail. The Times reported
Sunday that the 28 conversations show he believed he was a victim of the criminal justice system and was obsessed
with revenge.
At one point, he says he will need a gun and will shoot police if they cross him.
The four Lakewood officers were gunned down Nov. 29 at a coffee shop south of Tacoma.
Clemmons was shot to death by a Seattle officer two days later.

year, raising a total of $42,000 in cash or collateral.
The News Tribune says he knew the process because he once worked at a bail bond company.
Washington property records show Clemmons owned three properties in Pierce County, purchased in 2008.
Job records from the state Department of Corrections show Clemmons worked for a recycling company and a plumbing
company. He cleaned gutters and formed a pressure-washing company and a hot dog outlet.
